Journalists are learning this stuff together. Code with me holds in-person learning sessions. NICAR-IRE, Hacks/Hackers, the Online News Association, and Poynter all have great learning materials in person and online.
Google it. No, really. If you have a problem, someone else or many someone elses probably have had it too. Search the web for answers and you'll start encountering sites like Stack Overflow where folks answer a wide variety of coding questions. Lisa Williams devoted a tumblr to detailing the process of learning to code, from the perspective of a journalist. Just look around a bit and you'll find a lot of great, supportive resources and communities out there.
